I had a fabulous time at Dosey Doe (in September) singing a two-hour set of my original tunes. There was audience participation and, of course, movement and dancing!
Following the sage advice of my music mentor, NYC actor/musician Bryan Fenkart, I “got out of my own way” to sing from an “emotionally naked” place and “flew without a safety net“–no song sheets with lyrics or chords–just my guitar and heaping helping of hope. 🙂 Hooray for the emotional salience that strengthens neural synapses and bolsters recall because, after a 3-year music hiatus to finish my doctorate, I shockingly remembered every chord, capo position, and song lyric. HUZZAH!
I reminded myself that night that performing music isn’t just something I like to do; it’s viscerally a part of who I am. Few things bring me greater joy than to share an evening through musical storytelling and emotional connection with other souls. As such, I hope to put more live performances on my 2024 calendar! Giddyup. XO
